Her Story
Her Excellency Angeline Ndayishimiye has served as the First Lady of Burundi since June 18, 2020, following the inauguration of her husband, President Evariste Ndayishimiye. Born in 1976, she holds a degree in Economics and Management and has an extensive background in public service, where she held various government roles from 2005 to 2018. Her journey has been defined by her commitment to improving lives in Burundi, especially for women and vulnerable communities, and her work reflects a vision rooted in integrity, equality, and compassion.
Empowerment and Impact
Angeline Ndayishimiye is a dedicated advocate for women’s empowerment and community development in Burundi. Through her initiatives, she focuses on improving economic opportunities, supporting healthcare, and fostering educational access for women and youth. Her approach emphasizes practical support, including vocational training and small business grants, to create resilient, self-sustaining communities. As First Lady, Angeline Ndayishimiye leads several impactful initiatives:
- Good Action Foundation "Umugiraneza": Founded in July 2019, this foundation is dedicated to preventing and treating obstetric fistula, providing much-needed medical and psychological support to women affected by this condition.
- Association "Femmes Intwari": Established in 2017, this association brings together women ex-combatants and the wives of ex-combatants to promote peace, reconciliation, and democratic values.
- Zero Waste Movement: Launched in March 2024, this environmental initiative aims to promote cleanliness and sustainability, with a strong emphasis on how cleanliness can drive sustainable development.
